This weekend, I visited
Dinges' Farm in Three Oaks, Michigan, which was the site of the 1989 movie,
Prancer.
I'm in love with that town, which is full of quaint, creative shops and
diners, and I'm in love with that farm, which was just as quaint and
festive as the town.
Dinges'
had more than 20 different types of pumpkins (more pumpkins than I knew
ever existed!) and dozens of gourds and squash. I went home with
Cinderella, Fairytale, and Lumina pumpkins -probably more pumpkins than I
needed.... I also got a giant butternut squash, which I later found out
is called the Long of Naples squash, which is quite rare in the U.S.
...I
realize I'm bordering on pumkin/squash geekhood, but I really think the
festive setting and the beautiful weather did something funny to my
brain. Ever since I went, I'm tipping headlong into fall mania, and I
find myself daydreaming about pumpkin pie and apple cider.... Maybe the
fact that October, my favorite month, is just one day away has something
to do with it... but no matter!
I
hope you're all enjoying the season -pumpkins and all! And if you're
